Vasily Igorevich Nesterenko is one of the prominent figures of contemporary Russian art. His work is talented and multifaceted. He has equal access to multi-figured historical canvases and thematic still lifes, multi-meter paintings and small watercolors, psychological portraits and lyrical landscapes. He is a high-class professional, an artist with his own inner world, creative face and style. In whatever genre V.I. Nesterenko, the works he created, become a contribution to Russian art, have a great spiritual content and perfect art form.
His work can be divided into several main areas: historical painting, portrait, landscape, still life and spiritual painting. First of all, it should be noted that Vasily Nesterenko is a master of monumental subject-themed paintings devoted to key moments in the history of Russia.
Significant is the creative contribution of V.I. Nesterenko in the development of modern spiritual painting. He was the author of the reconstruction of four monumental paintings on the walls of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior: “Baptism of the Lord”, “Entrance of the Lord into Jerusalem”, “Resurrection of Christ”, “Holy Apostle and Evangelist Matthew”. In addition, Nesterenko recreated the Shroud and four Mother of God icons, and was the author of the interior decoration of two of the six refectory chambers of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior. In addition, V. I. Nesterenko worked on the murals of many other churches in Russia and abroad. A milestone among the artist’s spiritual works was the painting “Revival of the Patriarchate”, made for the Hall of the Supreme Church Council of the Russian Orthodox Church. On the occasion of the 1000th anniversary of Russian monasticism on Mount Athos in 2015-2016, the artist painted, with the blessing of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill, the church of St. Great Martyr and Healer Panteleimon on Mount Athos.
Creativity V.I. Nesterenko is unique both in terms of the highest performing skills, and the variety of genres in which the artist works, and in the abundance of topics and plots that he touches on in his work. A characteristic feature, a bright, distinguishing feature of his work is the harmonious unity of various genre structures and elements that enrich the pictorial and plastic structure, the meaningful dramaturgy of his epic paintings. The artist seeks to use the rare gift of a draftsman and painter in combination with the breadth of compositional thinking to create works glorifying Russia, its glorious history and its present day, its rich nature and unforgettable images of contemporaries. The paintings of Vasily Nesterenko as a whole bring good and beauty to people, his creative achievements are aimed at preserving and developing classical traditions in secular and spiritual art.
