April 19 to May 12 in the same space with the exhibition "Neon" will open the exhibition "2000 years of war. Episode I "by artist Alexander Rukavishnikov. Curator - Alexander Yakut. The exhibition has 30 bronze sculptures: heads of warriors of different eras and countries.
The Moscow Museum is a place where everyone can see how the history of an individual is connected with the history of the city and country. Exhibition "2000 years of war. Episode I ”is just such a bunch - the ability to feel the beat of the pulse of time, its role in the life of any city and person. One of the days of the exhibition falls on May 9 - Victory Day. The combination of dates is not accidental, because the heroes of Rukavishnikov are witnesses of an eternal war inscribed in the very essence of culture and civilization. They speak for those whose deaths are not foreseen, they ask us: "Is the history of mankind really the history of wars?"
Alexander Rukavishnikov’s bronze army is a Roman gladiator with a disfigured face and a sleek American marine, a Red Army volunteer and a Wehrmacht soldier, covered in tattoos by a Maori warrior and a ruthless barbarian-gall, crusader and Saracen.
The idea of the project “2000 years of war. Episode I ”appeared back in 2004, when Alexander Yakut, curator of this exhibition project, first saw the bronze head of Goliath in the sculptor’s workshop. The giant Philistine, unlike his rival, never enjoyed the special love of artists. Goliath was neither a king, nor a sage, nor a saint, but only a soldier of a dying civilization, he himself was doomed to death. His name, like the names of millions of soldiers before and after him, had every chance of remaining unknown - do not bring his death so loud glory to its winner. A. Yakut devotes “2000 years of war. Episode I ”in memory of David Sargsyan - former director of the Museum of Architecture Schuseva.
Alina Saprykina, director of the Museum of Moscow: “The Neon exhibition, which recently opened in our museum, representing the work of the artist and the first independent Moscow gallery owner Alexander Yakut and the exhibition“ 2000 Years of War. Episode I ”, exhibiting the works of Alexander Rukavishnikov, people’s artist of the Russian Federation, are held in one space. They are united by the depth of the authors in the problems of the national and universal past, an attempt to set creative optics on the "historical whole" of all peoples. "
The project was prepared with the support of the Triumph Gallery.
