One of the leading masters, a classic of fine art of Tatarstan, Lotfulla Abdulmenovich Fattakhov was born on September 27, 1918 in the village of Anda, Sergach district, Gorky region. Left at the age of 8, completely orphaned, Lotfulla Fattakhov found solace and joy in drawing and composing poems and short stories. At 13, the boy went to study on foot to Kazan! At 17, he entered the Kazan Art College, in the last fifth year he volunteered for the Soviet-Finnish War. I met the Great Patriotic War on the western border, in Belarus. In the battles for the Brest Fortress he was shell-shocked and in July 1941 was captured. After repeated unsuccessful attempts on March 13, 1945, when transporting from one concentration camp to another, Lotfulla Fattakhov managed to escape, breaking the floor of the freight car. Further, the battles in the ranks of the French Resistance against the Nazis and the year of service in Budapest after the end of the war.
“Not a day without work” - Lotfulla Abdulmenovich lived under such a motto for 35 years of peaceful life. The range of the artist’s creative searches is wide and multifaceted: from multi-figured paintings that are complex in design and solution to graphically clear and clear screensavers to Tatar folk tales. Possessing a light and cheerful character and colossal capacity for work, Lotfulla Fattakhov painted paintings drunk with sun and light, as if affirming life on earth. The artist’s works radiate the good energy and warmth of the author. They glorify the Victory of Soviet soldiers, the nature of their native land, peaceful labor, their native village, ordinary villagers, the Tatar holiday of Sabantuy. At the exhibition opening on November 15 at the Khazine National Art Gallery, the entire spectrum of the artist’s works will be presented: on the historical and heroic-revolutionary theme “Duma”, “Revolutionary Commissar Mullanur Vakhitov”, “In the First Years of Soviet Power”; thematic paintings of the domestic genre and works dedicated to the present “Squatting”, “At the exit laboratory”, “Village postman”, some of the best thematic works of fine art of Tatarstan “Sabantuy” and “Fresh Logs”, etc.
Along with painting L.A. Fattakhov worked enthusiastically in graphics. Possessing a literary gift and subtly feeling the language and style of literature, the artist successfully illustrated modern and classical works, Tatar folk tales, humorous stories and collections, painted cartoons, caricatures for Chayan magazine and other republican magazines and newspapers. At the exhibition, for the first time, the museum’s collection of Lotfulla Fattakhov’s graphics will be presented most fully: a series of drawings for the magazine “Spark” (1958), book illustration, military graphics — only about forty works.
