The Intermuseum-2018 International Festival, the main museum event of the year, will be held from May 31 to June 3 at the VDNH, in Pavilion No. 75. The annual festival, which has no analogues in the world, is being held for the twentieth time this year. At the stands and in various programs, a record number of participants are represented - more than 400 Russian and foreign museums. The key theme of this year is “Museums and Society”.
Founder and organizer of the festival, Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, operator-organizer of the State Museum and Exhibition Center “ROSIZO”; partner regions: Moscow Region and Krasnoyarsk Territory; partners: Union of Museums of Russia and the Vladimir Potanin Charity Fund.
More than 250 events of business, cultural and children’s programs will be held at 12 festival venues. The main events will take place in the 75th pavilion, as well as at two partner venues - in the Book Pavilion (No. 516, VDNKh) and the Cosmonautics Museum (111 Mira Ave.).
For numerous Russian and foreign museums, the festival is the most important area for professional communication. At open discussion platforms, lectures, master classes, intellectual rings, conferences and creative laboratories they will discuss current issues and prospects for the development of the museum industry. In the series of events of the Intermuseum, certain thematic groups have been identified: education and innovative approaches in representing museum collections, international and interregional cooperation, a museum in the digital age and the time of social networks, inclusion, the development of a volunteer movement and voluntary initiatives in the field of museum business and cultural heritage.
From year to year, the number of applications for the traditional inter-museum competition is increasing. In 2018, a record number of presentation projects were submitted from 322 museums - 499 (for comparison, in 2017, 414 applications from 265 organizations submitted for the competition). Finalists of the main nominations of the competition will be 20 museums. They have to defend their projects before the jury, which this year is headed by the president of the Pushkin Museum. A. S. Pushkina Irina Aleksandrovna Antonova.
An important tradition of the Intermuseum festival is the participation of partner regions. For the second year in a row, the Moscow Region has been in this status. The right to show their expositions was given to 15 museums near Moscow. A consolidated booth of regional attractions will also be presented in an interactive form. For the first time, the Krasnoyarsk Territory will become a partner region. The stand will unite 11 museums from all over the vast region: Krasnoyarsk, Norilsk, Dudinka, Igarka, Zheleznogorsk, Shushensky, Yeniseisk, Minusinsk and Achinsk. Both partner regions received the right to organize special events as part of the business program.
