MURMANSK. The Regional Art Museum continues an exhibition project congratulating Murmansk artists on the festive dates of their lives. “Happy Birthday, artist!” - under this name a series of exhibitions of this project is presented.
This time the museum marks the anniversary of Murmansk artist Nikolai Zavertaylo, celebrating his sixtieth birthday. The exposition, consisting of works in the museum’s collection, opened on November 23. Those wishing to see the paintings by Nikolai Alexandrovich can visit the Small Hall of the Museum, located on its ground floor. Entrance to the anniversary exhibition, open until December 4, is free.
The exposition also includes abstract compositions. Not everyone accepts this complex direction of painting, filled with metaphors and associations. However, the paintings created by Nikolai Zavertaylo attract even those who are far from understanding this style. It is possible that a special impression of his work is created by the presence of a person on them.
This is not always clearly traced, most often the presence is guessed. Suddenly, in a riot of colors, expressive eyes are revealed. And after them a human face. In the same style, the artist also paints views of Murmansk. Although the forms are abstract, the features of the city are recognizable. In the paintings of Nikolai Zavertaylo you can see the mast of the ships, high-rise buildings. They do not have clear outlines, but the look immediately highlights familiar landscapes.
Critics speak of Zavertailo as the creator of the author’s color-plastic style, but there is another definition - concrete abstractionism. In the abstract space of his paintings there are objects of the real world. Nikolay Zavertaylo himself says that there are a lot of topics in his work, but he considers the main appeal to the inner world of man.
