The Tretyakov Gallery presented an exhibition of Fedor Rokotov. famous Russian master of portrait Automatic translate
MOSCOW. The staff of the Tretyakov Gallery again provided an opportunity for fans of painting to visit a unique exhibition representing the work of the famous portrait master Fyodor Rokotov. He was called the most mysterious artist of those who created his work in the second half of the eighteenth century.
Fyodor Rokotov was also the most sought-after of portrait painters of that time. His customers were the most distinguished families of Moscow and St. Petersburg. Even Catherine the Second ordered him her portrait, which the Empress liked.
Many famous artists who worked simultaneously with Fyodor Rokotov did not have their own workshop, but the famous portrait painter, who wrote numerous portraits of the Vorontsov, Golitsyn, Orlov families, had his own room for work at the age of thirty.
Researchers of the work of Fedor Rokotov do not know exactly how many paintings were painted by the portrait master. The painter was often ordered to make portraits of each member of numerous families, which were then kept for centuries in family collections. During this time, some of his paintings became "portraits of the unknown" - the names of the characters were forgotten.
The exhibition of Fyodor Rokotov, which opened on February 19, which included 40 works by the painter, became the third after the one held in 1923 and 1960. She presented the results of fifty years of research work of the painter. As a result of these studies, it turned out that some of the canvases belong not to the portrait painter himself, but to his students.
The creators of the exhibition placed these five paintings on a separate wall. The remaining canvases are in three sections. Each is dedicated to a certain period of the work of Fedor Rokotov. You can see the work of the painter on April 24th.
