IRKUTSK. On the evening of October 10, the exhibition "Contemporary Russian Painting" was solemnly opened in the halls of the city exhibition center. Exhibits provided the Museum of Modern Art, located in St. Petersburg, "Erarta".
Erarta is not just a museum, but a grandiose project, which included museums and galleries located in various European cities, as well as a fund operating under the same name. The main objective of this project is the development of international relations in the field of contemporary art, but even more attention is paid to various types of work with Russian contemporary art. The Erarta project is engaged in its collecting, arranging exhibitions, and also promoting it in the art space of the world.
The collection of St. Petersburg "Erarta" is constantly replenished with various objects of modern art - from paintings and drawings by Russian artists, to their works in the form of video and digital graphics. Now the museum’s collection includes more than two thousand works made by masters from twenty-two Russian cities.
The project of the museum “Russia in Erarta”, which is designed for a long period of time, is currently underway, in the framework of which exhibitions of artists from the country’s regions in St. Petersburg, as well as exhibitions in major cities of the country, are held. The exhibition in Irkutsk is part of this project. Such exhibitions have already taken place last year in Novosibirsk and Perm, and a new version of the exposition has been prepared for 2013.
The basis of the exhibition in Irkutsk was 66 works that arrived not only from the storehouse of the St. Petersburg Museum, but also from its permanent exhibition. The exhibition, which mainly presents the works of contemporary artists from St. Petersburg, will be open until October 25th.
