On the occasion of the anniversary of the artist, a member of the New Artists group, the Moscow Art Museum invites connoisseurs of his work to visit a retrospective exhibition, open until April 14, where more than 125 works by Timur Novikov, which has become a symbol of perestroika, an extremely gifted personality, are presented.
For the first time, residents of the capital will see most of the artist’s works presented at the exhibition. The exhibition’s exposition included not only graphics and paintings, but collages and panels, video materials, documents from the Museum of the Academy of Fine Arts, created by the artist, were placed in the hall. Materials from the archive of Timur Novikov, as well as private collections of fans of his work are presented.
The organizers of the exhibition to more clearly represent the stages of the artist’s work systematized his works according to the dates of their creation. The result was a section devoted to expressive graphics and paintings created in 1978-1980, a series of panels under the general name "Horizons", made from 1987 to 1991. The year 1990, Novikov devoted to neo-academicism, and then you can see the work in a slightly different, more serious style, completed before the year 2000.
The first step towards the creation of the Academy of Fine Arts was the Assa Gallery, opened by Timur Novikov in an empty communal apartment, a place that became home to the New Artists group, which included not only avant-garde artists, but also informal musicians. Around the artist there have always been many people associated with the world of art. The name of Timur Novikov was known to the whole Petersburg avant-garde.
Timur passed away early, but his friends still remember and appreciate the “Man of Renaissance”. So called his best friends.
