The “Changing Museum in a Changing World” program of the V. Potanin Charity Fund annually supports the most striking museum projects throughout Russia. The competition aims to create conditions for the exchange of experience and technology; strengthening ties within the professional community; development of cooperation and partnerships between museums and organizations from other areas of professional activity.
This year 427 project applications will compete for victory in the competition - one third more than in the previous competition. The most popular nominations were “Museum and the local community” (172 applications) and “Museum start” (143 applications). 76 applications were submitted to the Open Collection nomination, and 36 to the Museum Design nomination. Compared to last year, project activity in the southern, northern and northwestern regions of the Russian Federation almost doubled. The number of applications from Far Eastern and Siberian museums, as well as museums of the Volga region, increased by a third. Employees of the museums of Central Russia showed a consistently high interest in the competition.
The priority of the competition has always been and remains the creation of equal conditions for museums, regardless of their status, location, exposition area. This year’s competition was no exception: among its participants are museum organizations at the federal, republican, regional and municipal levels, departmental and school museums. For the first time, along with museum organizations, non-profit organizations could also take part in the competition - they received 64 applications.
Fund Program Director Nadezhda Maksimova: “This year we paid great attention to the information campaign of the Fund’s new museum strategy, including the updated program“ A Changing Museum in a Changing World. ” It was very important for us to get feedback from potential applicants. We felt their interest in the new nominations of the competition, in the capabilities of other museum programs of the Foundation. As a result, we received significantly more applications than last year. Now they have to go through a two-stage independent examination, the completion of which we look forward to. ”
By the end of March, applications will be reviewed by the Regional Expert Councils. Then the best of them will go to the Expert Council of the competition, which will select the winners.
The competition results will be announced on April 23, 2015.
The grant fund of the XII contest is 25 million rubles.
