September 25, 2019 at 17.00 in the Gallery of Modern Art of the State Museum of Fine Arts of the Republic of Tatarstan (Kazan, Karl Marx St., 57) the opening of the exhibition “Sources. The art of felt ”by Talgat Masalimov, Honored Artist of the Republic of Bashkortostan.
Painter, graphic artist, artist of decorative and applied art, teacher Talgat Khasanovich Masalimov was born in 1958 in one of the most beautiful villages of the Miyakinsky district of Bashkortostan - Shatmantamak, which is famous for its amazingly rich history. Throughout his career, Shatmantamak became the most expensive topic of the artist. “The sources of my work are childhood impressions, memories… The main theme, as I like to repeat, was found in the chest of my grandmother, as soon as I was allowed to go to this holy of holies. Folk items, national costume, embroidery and weaving, right from the chest, “poured” onto my canvases and graphic sheets. This inexhaustible source still nourishes my inspiration, excites my imagination, bringing joy from contact with genuine, historical and very native material. Felt occupies a special place in this row, if not the main thing ”(Talgat Masalimov).
The artist’s creativity is classified as an ethnic avant-garde - a direction that arose in the national republics of the Volga region, Estonia and Finland at the turn of the 1980s - 1990s and expressed in a synthesis of ancient, archaic imagery and modern visual language. Today it is a powerful and vibrant phenomenon in the fine and decorative arts of Bashkortostan. Talgat Masalimov owns one of the most worthy places in it.
The exhibition runs through October 31, 2019.
