The Russian Academy of Arts presents an exhibition of works by the People’s Artist of the Russian Federation and Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts Galina Mikhailovna Wiesel and members of her family "The Connection of Generations". The exposition of a large-scale retrospective project occupies ten exhibition halls and shows all the diversity of the work of the masters of the artistic dynasty - ceramics, painting and graphics, photography and design.
Galina Wiesel belongs to the generation of leading domestic artists who entered the great art with their own, philosophically meaningful and emotionally experienced theme of the peoples of the North. She devoted many years of professional creative activity to the study and artistic understanding of the ancient culture of Yugra. The artist’s works reveal not only the mythological and aesthetic views of the peoples of Siberia: the Ob Ugrians, Khanty and Mansi, various plastic properties of materials (ceramics, bronze), but also examples of an amazing combination of a deeply folk tradition and the aesthetics of a “scientist”, professional art. The master’s work belongs to such fundamental categories as monumental, classical and folk.
G. M. Wiesel was born in 1941 in Tyumen. She graduated from the Department of Artistic Ceramics of the Tashkent Theater and Art Institute named after. A. N. Ostrovsky. Lives and works in Khanty-Mansiysk. The artist has participated in more than 200 exhibition projects, both group international and personal. She is the owner of the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, II degree, professor of painting and arts and crafts. The master conducts research work, speaks at scientific conferences. In addition, Galina Mikhailovna is a brilliant teacher who has trained more than one generation of successful young artists and successfully carries out pedagogical activities.
Galina Wiesel is a multifaceted artist who successfully works in various techniques, types, and genres. Her works are significant for the multinational national art of the late 20th - early 21st century and are among the most significant among artistic compositions in terms of the strength of the impact and the completeness of the plastic solution. The exhibition will also feature graphic works by Honored Artist of the Russian Federation Alexander Georgievich Wiesel, design projects by Gleb and Natalia Wiesel, ceramics by Inga Samurskaya-Wiesel (daughter), author’s photography by Kirill Samursky, paintings and graphics by Nika Wiesel.
Within the framework of the exhibition, a presentation of the monograph by G. M. Wiesel, summarizing the many years of work of a unique artist, will take place. Also, on April 1, 2022, in the White Hall of the Russian Academy of Arts, a round table discussion “Myths, legends of legends in modern decorative and folk art. On the question of the mythological consciousness of the artist”, organized by the Department of Decorative Arts and the Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Arts.
