Exhibition “Russia - China. Without translation" is timed to coincide with the Year of China in Russia and is the third large-scale traveling project of the Honored Artist of the Russian Federation Natalia Ovsienko in the Kaluga region - this is a story about two great countries, their original cultures, the beauty and features of natural landscapes.
In his paintings dedicated to the Russian land, N. Ovsienko continues the tradition of the luminaries of Russian painting, the Itinerant artists - A. Savrasov, I. Levitan, V. Polenov. Poetizing national nature, the author reveals its discreet beauty and subtly conveys shades of mood and states.
The canvases of the Chinese cycle are ethnographic in nature, introducing the viewer to the special world of its eastern neighbor. Colorful travel notes about the life and everyday life of the Celestial Empire, colorful exquisite still lifes and landscapes, in which the author’s acquaintance with the visual culture of the East can be traced, develop under the artist’s brush into picturesque and philosophical narratives about this powerful ancient civilization.
Since 2012, N. Ovsienko has been making ceramics, which has become a new means of creative expression for her. Feeling the material and skillfully using its plastic properties, she creates images full of spiritual purity and sincere feelings, reflects on ancient eras and the heritage of her ancestors, conveys through clay her ideas about human life and the range of everyday concerns, which at first glance seem simple and uncomplicated, but in the sensitive hands of the artist they are filled with beingness and metaphysics. The ceramic works created by the author under the influence of the visual traditions of the Russian avant-garde and folk culture deserve special attention. These stylistic meaningful objects show N. Ovsienko as a creator capable of being different in his aesthetic searches depending on the tasks assigned.
