The general director of the Bakhrushinsky Theater Museum, Kristina Trubinova, opened the exhibition “Bolshoi Ballet of Yuri Grigorovich” on March 29 in Vienna. The project, dedicated to the legendary choreographer, was implemented with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation within the framework of an agreement with Rossotrudnichestvo and in partnership with the Russian House in the Austrian capital.
“Yuri Nikolaevich Grigorovich is a great friend of the Bakhrushin Museum. We created exhibitions for his anniversaries both on our site and at the Bolshoi Theater. We are glad that we have the opportunity to present rare photographic portraits of the master, unique photographs of rehearsals and performances to the Viennese public. The current exhibition is our second project with the Russian House in Vienna. I am confident that our cooperation in the future will be just as successful and fruitful,” noted the general director of the Bakhrushinsky Theater Museum, Kristina Trubinova, in her opening remarks.
The opening participants saw the most striking scenes from the performances and fragments of the choreographer’s rehearsals with such great artists as Vladimir Vasiliev, Mikhail Lavrovsky, Boris Akimov, Nikolai Tsiskaridze and Svetlana Zakharova. They learned how the master worked on staging his performances, how important not only work with artists, but even the smallest details were for him. The productions come to life in 75 photographs from the collection of the Bakhrushin Museum, including photographs by the famous Bolshoi Theater photographer Mikhail Logvinov. The exhibition project tells how Grigorovich made the Bolshoi Theater the way the whole world knows it today.
“Yuri Nikolaevich devoted his life to the art of movement and plasticity. This is a great choreographer who managed to bring the dramaturgy and technique of modern ballet dance to an incredible level. I am sure that acquaintance with the collection of the Bakhrushin Museum will provide an opportunity to get to know the life of the master, who made a revolutionary contribution to the traditions of the Russian and world ballet school,” said Oleg Ksenofontov, head of the Rossotrudnichestvo representative office in Austria, director of the Russian Institute of Culture in Vienna.
