From October 22 to November 29, 2015 at the Exhibition Center of VDNH, in Pavilion 51 “Meat Industry” as part of the Year of Udmurtia and the program “Year of Udmurtia in Moscow” KAMA Records together with the Association “Exhibition Halls of Moscow”, the Volga-Vyatka branch of the State Center for Contemporary art and the Ministry of National Policy of Udmurtia presents the exhibition "Contemporary Udmurtia (Contemporary Udmurtia)".
Daria Tkacheva, art critic: “Actual Udmurtia” is a laboratory for finding a new language to describe the current state of society in the Russian region. The works collected in this exhibition appeal to different traditions, reminding us of their diversity. From folklore to comics, from naive art to video art. This is a kind of artistic and anthropological study, revealing the links between the various sign systems of modern culture, between tradition and art. ”
The main theme of the exhibition is the combination of traditional culture and modern art. Artists explore the methods and mechanisms for transforming tradition into art. The exhibition presents paintings, graphics, photography, multimedia, art objects of artists living in Udmurtia or working with the Finno-Ugric theme.
Zoya Lebedeva (flat textiles, lubok, video projection), Alexander Pilin (objects from felt), micro-art group Ustinov City (micro objects), Pavel Aksyonov (graphics), Andrey Yakovlev & Lily Aleeva (photo), Dmitry Ermakov, Lev Vakhitov )documentary films), teachers and students of the A. Rodchenko Moscow School of Photography and Multimedia, video artists from Tver, Izhevsk, Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod.
During the exhibition, there will be creative meetings with directors, artists, photographers, musicians from Udmurtia and the UK, master classes, open lectures and curator tours.
The organizers of the exhibition are “Kama records” and the Ministry of National Policy of the Udmurt Republic with the partnership and participation of the Federal Agency for Nationalities, the Government of the Udmurt Republic and the Government of Moscow, the Permanent Mission of the Head of the UR under the President of the Russian Federation, the Association “Exhibition Halls of Moscow”, and the Regional Public Organization “ Assembly of the Peoples of Udmurtia. ”
