SARATOV. Alexei Logachev, the Saratov theater-goers, presented his new work, since the beginning of the current theater season he has been the main director of the Youth Theater. “Dear Sashenka” - under this name, viewers saw a scenic reading of “Ordinary History” - a novel written by Ivan Goncharov a century and a half ago. The premiere took place on April 22 on the big stage of the Youth Theater.
The appearance of classical works in the repertoire of the Youth Theater was promised by the main director at the beginning of the season. So far, the promise has been fulfilled only in relation to Russian classics. The first sign was “The Undergrowth,” staged by a staging of Yu. Kim and L. Eidlin. Its premiere took place in February. Now it’s the turn of Goncharov’s Ordinary History.
The director presented his reading of the classic work in the form of “events and incidents from the novel,” retaining the main plot, but added a tragic ending to it. Problems that arise in the life of a provincial who moved to a big city became the main line outlined in the play.
The move of the main character, Alexander Aduev, to the capital, coincided with the stage of his growing up. That’s just the mentor of the young man became his uncle, a business man and pragmatic. Thanks to his mentor and personal failures, the young man was disappointed in his aspirations. For the career of a writer, he did not have enough talent, love illusions crumbled. There were only dreams of a successful business career.
The stage version of the novel created by Alexei Logachev was accepted by the audience. More than three hours allotted for the three actions of the performance, the audience empathized with the participants in the events taking place on the stage. There are many directorial finds in the play, excellent costumes and sets, and most importantly, what made the play successful is a wonderful acting team.
