The performance "Outsider" was the third work created on the stage of "Contemporary" by the young director Ekaterina Polovtseva. Invited by Galina Volchek, to participate in the project "Experiments" organized by her, Ekaterina Polovtseva showed herself to be a talented director. Her first work was the staging of the play “Pretty” by Sergei Naydenov on the small stage of the theater.

In her new work, submitted to the court of theater-goers, Ekaterina Polovtseva refused to literally stage. She decided not to turn Camus’ prose into drama, and having designated the genre of the play - “dreams”, she followed the emotional component of the story.

Camus wrote his story in the first person, the whole text is structured in such a way that it is very difficult to transfer the memories and thoughts of the protagonist into a text suitable for the theater scene.

The plot of the story is the story of the Frenchman Marceau, whose mother had just died, but under him are hidden reflections on spirituality, callousness, and attempts to overcome the conventions imposed by society. The performance did not become a story about an egoist, as many consider Marceau. This is the story of a thinking person who is forced to live in a world with moral values ​​imposed by society.
