Chopin with a Korean accent. The victory of the music prodigy at the competition in Warsaw Automatic translate
WARSAW. The XVII Chopin International Competition brought victory to pianist Seng Jin Cho from South Korea.
Chopin was not the first to help Seng Jin Cho achieve excellent results in a prestigious competition. At the age of 14, the young pianist won the first prize at the VI International Chopin Competition in Moscow. After only 7 years, on October 21, 2015, he won in the composer’s homeland. The competition is held once every five years, the greater the success of the Korean musician, who is considered one of the best young pianists. The first recital and victory in Warsaw are only 10 years apart. In between - the first prize in the Japanese Hamamatzu and Tel Aviv, the third in the Arthur Rubinstein competition, studies at the Paris Conservatory with the famous Michel Beroff, performances with symphony orchestras from different countries, music competitions at various levels. At the previous Tchaikovsky competition, he became a bronze winner and in the first two stages was considered a clear contender for victory. One of those who appreciated the exceptional talent of the Korean musician was the wonderful pianist Nikolai Petrov.
Russian Dmitry Shishkin took only 6th place in the Polish capital. Compared with the main prizes of Julianna Avdeeva, Lucas Geniusas and Daniil Trifonov in 2010, a good result seems to be a clear regression. This year’s Tchaikovsky’s competition was also not entirely successful for Shishkin, in the ranking card he was only 35th there.
The second and third place at the Chopin forum went to Canadians - Charles Richard-Amlen and Kate Liu. The latter captivated the audience with the maturity of skill, the melodiousness of the game, the beauty of the sound. Special prizes, traditionally awarded for performing polonaise and mazurka, went to Seng Jin Cho and Kate Liu, respectively.
