VLADIMIR. On December 26, the opening of an exhibition dedicated to the memory of Kim Britov, People’s Artist of the Russian Federation, took place in the picture gallery of the Chambers of Culture and Education Center. In creating an exposition presented to the public under the name “Kim Britov. The gray period ”was attended by employees of the VSMZ (Suzdal Museum-Reserve).

Ten works were selected from the museum’s collection, most of which were written by Kim Nikolaevich in the early period of his work. At the same time, there are 12 studies, almost unknown even to experts in Kim Britov’s work. These works were a gift from the artist to his friend, Vladimir Aleksandrovich Chebotaev.

For many years, sketches created by the artist in the late 40s of the last century were kept in the collection of friend Kim Britov. Previously, they did not participate in exhibitions. These works by experts studying the work of the famous artist, refer to the "gray period". For a decade, Kim Britov’s works were dominated by monochrome color schemes.

The works included in the exhibition were the first steps of the future master of the school of Vladimir painting in search of his own style. At this time, the artist used in his work gentle ocher and pearl silver tones. He believed that such a color scheme allows you to most faithfully convey the atmosphere of the Central Russian landscape.

The exposition contains sketches made in various styles. Some of the works are made in a surprisingly subtle, realistic manner, some are written in a free style. Among them are works written using textured soil.

A unique opportunity to get acquainted with the early works of Kim Britov is available to visitors to the Vladimirsky Chambers art gallery until March 4.
