The Russian Museum presented an updated permanent exhibition of the collection from the collection of Ludwig Automatic translate
ST. PETERSBURG. On May 20th, the Russian Museum opened an updated exposition “The Ludwig Museum…”, permanently located in the halls of the Marble Palace. The basis of this exposition was donated to the museum by famous German art collectors Peter and Irena Ludwig, a collection of works by artists who created them in the second part of the last century.
This collection was received by the museum in 1994, and on March 10 of the following year, the first visitors saw it. The composition of the gift was selected by the collectors themselves, but with the participation of employees of the Russian Museum. Among the authors, donated works of art, were the names of artists of world renown.
The exposition includes works on which Ludwig’s preferences in art are clearly visible. Two directions are most clearly represented here - American pop art, from which the collector began his collection of contemporary art. At that moment, it was the most radical art movement, the scale of which was understood by Ludwig much earlier than other collectors of collections.
The second most important for Ludwig was German neo-expressionism, which made painting again relevant in the eighties. A significant place in the exposition is reserved for the works of Russian artists of the same time. Under the terms of the contract with the Ludwig family of the Russian Museum, the donated collection is constantly supplemented with new works, some of which are acquired with the support of the Collectors Fund. Many works are donated to the museum from artists and their heirs.
The main innovation of the updated exposition was the hall, where the exposition will change annually. Thanks to this innovation, museum visitors will be able to gradually get acquainted with the entire collection of Ludwigs.
