MOSCOW. The Moscow Museum of Modern Art opened an exhibition on 16 October dedicated to the artist Igor Vulokh. His works are kept in the Russian Museum and the Tretyakov Gallery, are an ornament of many foreign collections. This exhibition was to become the most ambitious display of the artist’s works, for her opening more than two years.
However, the artist passed away in November 2012, so that the exhibition was posthumous, dedicated to the memory of the master. The exposition, composed of Igor Vulokh’s works of various periods, was housed in six halls of the museum, collecting 200 works of the artist in them. The exposition is made in chronological order - from student landscapes, to works of the master.
The space of the two halls is decorated in a special way: the graphics created by Vulokh are placed there, and the verses of his long-time friend, the poet Gennady Aigi, with whom several cycles of artistic and poetic works were created. According to the daughter of the artist, Lydia, it was these two halls that made her the strongest impression.
Igor Vulokh was called «painter of light and air», an artist-contemplative, the primary source of which was color. In his student years, Igor painted beautiful landscapes that aroused admiration among famous artists, but the artist chose a different path that belonged to him personally.
For many years Volokh worked in a realistic manner, and abstract paintings were written for himself. Only his close friends could see this facet of Igor Volok’s creativity, but it was these works that brought him worldwide fame and recognition. In these paintings there are no complex compositions, but they are full of light and harmony, a subtle and gentle lyrics, close to every connoisseur of the artist’s work.
The exhibition is open until 24 November.
