"The verge of creativity" B. Kustodiev on the anniversary of the artist in the Museum of Yekaterinburg Automatic translate
YEKATERINBURG. The Museum of Fine Arts has opened an anniversary exhibition of works by Boris Kustodiev. Her exposition, traditionally created with the participation of the Nizhny Tagil and Tyumen Museum, is dedicated to the 135th anniversary of the artist.
However, the main thing, due to which this exhibition is unique and causes unusual interest of lovers of painting, is the opportunity to get acquainted with the artist’s work from an almost unfamiliar public. The exhibition presents not only colorful paintings, well known and loved by connoisseurs of painting, but also works of a completely different plan, in which realism reigns.
If the paintings, in which Kustodiev’s traditional style of work is inherent, are painted in bright colors, the images on them are bright and joyful, then realistic works are the obvious opposite - they are made using deep dark tones.
Many do not know that among the creative heritage of the artist there is a considerable number of graphic works. This side of his talent was fully manifested towards the end of his life. Due to a serious illness, Kustodiev almost did not paint at the age of 38 - he could not stand at the easel, as he could only sit in a wheelchair.
Since that time, the main hobby of the artist has become engraving. According to the graphic works of Kustodiev included in the exhibition, it is clear that he showed great talent in this part of his work. His engravings look voluminous and saturated, attracting the attention of visitors.
47 photographs from the artist’s personal archive gave an even greater uniqueness to the exhibition, most of which Kustodiev made himself. Scenes from the artist’s life allow you to make acquaintance with his work more intimate.
The exhibition runs until September 8 of this year.
