Rubens found it very difficult to paint Anne of Austria, wife of King Louis XIII of France. The four portraits in which she is depicted tell us this eloquently. It is now difficult to say exactly when they were painted. Experts ascribe all four portraits to the years 1622-1625. In the costume, which is depicted on one of the most famous paintings of the great painter "Anne of Austria" clearly shows the influence of Spain on France in that period. Description of Peter Rubens’ painting "Anna of Austria"
Rubens found it very difficult to paint Anne of Austria, wife of King Louis XIII of France. The four portraits in which she is depicted tell us this eloquently. It is now difficult to say exactly when they were painted. Experts ascribe all four portraits to the years 1622-1625.
In the costume, which is depicted on one of the most famous paintings of the great painter "Anne of Austria" clearly shows the influence of Spain on France in that period.
The size of the canvas depicting the queen is 120x96.8 cm. It is executed in oil on a wooden board. We know the painting by its abbreviated title. Its full title is "Anne of Austria, wife of King Louis XIII of France".
In the work of Rubens we see a pronounced baroque style. Rubens was rightly considered the author and creator of large baroque compositions. Anna in the portrait is endowed with an arrogant stately bearing. We see her in a calm pose, slightly turned his head. Anna looks meaningfully at the viewer.
Anne of Austria, born in Spain, into the family of King Philip the Third. In those days it was not customary to give girls a good education (even royal blood), so she received only knowledge of Latin and learned the basics of European languages. Anna could see her parents only on certain days. In 1615, at the age of 14, she married Louis XIII. In 1643-1651 becomes regent of the young King Louis XIV. Was involved in various actions against Cardinal Richelieu.
