THis painting looks so much like my son James, and it is very sadly ironic that I found it years after his marriage.
I am glad Tsar Alexi Mikalhailovich was an exceptional tsar.
Почему невесты недовольные какие-то?

On the right side of the painting, facing the women, stands a man in a striking red robe and a black hat, presumably Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich. He is looking towards the women, holding a handkerchief or a piece of cloth in his hands, suggesting a moment of deliberation or selection. The background is a dimly lit interior, possibly a royal chamber, with a patterned wall and a checkered floor.
The subtext of the painting lies in the historical practice of the Tsar choosing a bride from a selection of eligible noblewomen. This was a significant event for the continuity of the royal dynasty and involved a careful vetting process based on beauty, health, piety, and lineage. The painting captures the gravity of this moment, highlighting the societal expectations of women in this era and the power vested in the Tsar. The contrast between the richly adorned but subdued women and the powerful figure of the Tsar emphasizes the political and social implications of the event. The formal setting and the womens demeanor suggest a ritualistic and ceremonial aspect to the selection process, where personal preference may have been secondary to political considerations.
