"Being letters"
“… the history of ancestors is always
curious for who
worthy of having the Fatherland "
N.M. Karamzin
The exposition presents the creative works of recent years, where in the collage format the forms and details of the historical costume of different eras are reflected. The costume has always been a reflection of the cultural and economic level of development of society, determined the place of a person in society, dictated the manner of his behavior. The relationship of the costume with the era and the historical person is so obvious, and according to the unique images created, you can safely write a chronicle of the existence of mankind. The history of creating a costume of any period certainly includes the features of shaping and tailoring, the use of various types of applied crafts that create a unique image of their time.
The symbiosis of two artistic directions - an authentic costume of the era and the historical image of its time, as a unity of views on the art of form and short literary essays combined in the art of collage. The artist solves this issue by expressing her emotional sense of the unity of the two hypostases as a living perception of the world through “existential letters” - through an installed form in the plane and space, using the composition and aesthetics of the era.
The name of the exhibition is not accidental - “Genesis Letters” - a type of pictorial art, a historical phenomenon that appeared in Russia in the 16th century in the likeness of more ancient examples of miniature painting in the East. Until that time, only church painting existed in Russia, and the birth of the representation of domestic plots was the beginning of a new era of miniature and monumental painting.
The works presented at the exhibition are not just compositions from individual elements of the costume, fabrics, jewelry that amuse and can be viewed with interest for a long time, it is primarily a design object that forms a modern worldview and respect for historical and folk traditions. The creation of interior collage compositions “Existence Letters” can be considered as an integral system of many design elements: compositional and stylistic features of the era, textile coloring, design of historical costume and household items. Creating each composition, the artist finds unique creative techniques in the embodiment of his attitude to the era and personality, expressing love and respect for history and art.
For many years, Irina Volkodaeva successfully combines teaching activities with creativity; the exhibition presents not only author’s design projects, but also projects created together with students in the field of monumental and decorative design.
All guests of the exhibition will enjoy the atmosphere and special aroma of authentic art and design history.
