From the beginning of the 20th century, creative associations of Kaluga artists began to emerge in Kaluga - the Kaluga art circle (1909), the local branch of the Russian Academy of Arts (1926), the Kaluga artist association (1938). The artistic life of the region has become especially diverse and vibrant since the time when the local branch of the Union of Artists of Russia was organized (1955).

Over the past years, Kaluga artists have created a large number of highly professional works of painting, sculpture, decorative and applied art. Many of these works were exhibited at regional, All-Russian, All-Union and international exhibitions. Leading masters of Kaluga art were awarded high ranks and government awards. At one time, I. A.
