February 08 at 16.00 in the Kaluga Museum of Fine Arts (ul. Lenin, 103) exhibition of the artist B.A. Ovchinnikov-Novochadovsky (1914-1997)
“Oh, Russia! Open your beautiful face. Painting. Graphic arts".
Boris Alexandrovich was born in Siberia, in the village of Noshino, Krasnoyarsk Territory in 1914 in a doctor’s family. From childhood, the boy became interested in drawing. With age, a fascination with the theater appears, and the young man enters an extra on the stage of the Novosibirsk Red Torch Theater. In 1930, Boris came to Moscow and entered the “Art College named after 1905 ”and simultaneously to the acting department of the Institute of Cinematography. But soon there comes the realization that art is the meaning of life, and Boris Alexandrovich is fully committed to painting. In the days of graduation in 1934, Boris Alexandrovich was repressed. Five years of concentration camps have become a terrible school of life for a young artist. After his release, Boris Alexandrovich worked as a decorator and director in various theaters of the Urals, Siberia and Kazakhstan. In 1945, the artist works in the Drama Theater of Chrysostom. In 1948, Boris Alexandrovich was invited to the Noginsk Drama Theater of the Moscow Region as a production designer. In this theater, the artist worked for about 20 years. After retiring, Boris Alexandrovich continued to work fruitfully in the workshop. Along with this, he devotes much time to both graphic works and easel painting.
The opening exhibition of B. A. Ovchinnikov-Novochadovsky is called “Oh, Russia! Open your beautiful face ”, because the main theme of many works presented in the exposition is the beauty of the Russian land, the greatness of its open spaces, the strength of the spirit of its people with rich traditions, a complex long-suffering history. The paintings "Dawn with the Dawn", "The Temple Hidden", "Search for Silence", presented at the exhibition, as a symbol of eternal life and human aspiration for the eternal, in them the Earth and Heaven live together.
At the exhibition, you can see several works from the pastel suite Meta Zemli, in which Boris Alexandrovich reveals the theme of the ascent of the human soul to truth, goodness, and beauty. The artist worked on the paintings of this cycle in the last years of his life. The images of many works of the artist contain a deep philosophical implication.
A separate page of the artist’s creative biography is scenography. More than thirty years of Boris Alexandrovich’s work were devoted to the theater. The exhibition presents sketches of sets and costumes for performances of Russian, Soviet and foreign dramaturgy, which reveal to us a subtle original artist who combines the traditions of Russian realistic art and the heritage of the Silver Age in his works of decorative painting.
The exhibition will run from February 08 to March 08, 2017 in the premises of the Information and Educational and Exhibition Center of the KIIA (103 Lenin St.).
The museum is open from 10.00 to 18.00, on Saturday from 11.00 to 19.00. Monday is the day off. Contact phone - 8 (4842) 56-38-20.
