From June 29 to September 12, 2016 in the «Gallery of V. Bronstein» will be a solo exhibition of a contemporary artist from Yakutia Mikhail Starostin «Summer of Snow.» The project is unique: the painting and graphics of the famous author, more than 40 works, will be presented for the first time in the capital of Eastern Siberia.
It is worth noting that the painting of Yakutia is a relatively young phenomenon, but permeated by the traditions and peculiarities of the culture of the northern peoples. Ethnic color is present on the canvases of both novice masters and in the works of recognized masters. Among the latter - Mikhail Starostin, the most popular and famous artist of Yakutia. After graduating from the Industrial Graphics Department of the Krasnoyarsk State Art Institute, Mikhail Gavrilievich devoted many years to the work of the art editor of the National Book Publishers. Hence the recognizable handwriting of the master in graphics, painting and design. The artist admits that his work is not countable. Creativity of the author is presented not only in museums and galleries of Russia, but also in many foreign countries, for example, in private collections in the USA, Canada, France, England, China, etc. The last personal exhibition of the artist took place in April 2016, in the Moscow gallery Zart.
The main characters of the master paintings are the people of the North. Walking on foot, sailing in boats, riding horses and bulls - in all faces, the traits of the author himself are guessed. It is fair to say that the artist writes what is best known to him. Mikhail Starostin explains: «How do I collect material for my work? This is, above all, literature on ethnography. To be honest, in the North, I was not, in fact, like that. If we talk about the details that I use in my works, I can say so. My grandfather was a hunter, and like any hunter, he had cherkans or take, for example, such clothes as the kurolians, which many northern peoples have, because these are our alaska down jackets. And all this is in my pictures. «
