National Exhibition Project “Shukshin. Hero’s Palette ”combines the All-Russian competition of illustrations, a creative residence, a series of exhibitions, master classes and film screenings, which take place in eight cities of Russia. The exhibition has already visited St. Petersburg, Ufa, Barnaul, Rostov-on-Don, and in autumn the project will be presented in Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, Yekaterinburg and Krasnoyarsk.
A traveling exhibition is a kind of result of the rethinking by contemporary artists of the work of Vasily Shukshin with a deep immersion in the place of power - the village of Srostki, the native village of the writer in Altai, where people, life and culture, characters and relationships, nature and the earth itself nourished and saturated Shukshin. More than 50 works created by artists in the creative residence - became the basis of visual reflection, the result of which can be seen from September 6 to 20, 2018 in the Museum of Moscow. The main Moscow city museum already has a good tradition of showing contemporary Russian art, presenting in its halls both new and already well-known names.
Artists of the project: Alexandra Mitlyanskaya, Marina Fomenko, Evgeny Ivanov, Nastya Kuzmina, Natalya Gritsenko, Vitaly Afanasyev, Elena Demidova, Leonid Tishkov, Sergey Rozhin, Olga Bozhko.
Curator Vitaly Patsyukov about the project and its participants:
“Each of the project participants had to overcome the cliches that have developed over the past decades. The values of culture, in order to continue in the present and in the future, must be constantly updated and live in spiritualization. Therefore, we turned to those forms of art that were inherent in Shukshin’s work - open editing phrases of his cinema, immediacy of an artistic gesture, incredibly lively forms of his speech. Reflecting on the images of Shukshin, the project participants used new technologies, their organic connections with the poetics of Shukshin, with their help to relive the main themes of his work.
The problem of the national idea continues to be relevant in our history. It is very difficult to express and form. Vasily Makarovich Shukshin undoubtedly carried this idea in his work, both in his personality and in his life. In our project, we tried to show and define it. ”
An important part of the exhibition was the installation of more than 200 works by amateur artists participating in the All-Russian competition of illustrations, which took place from January to April 2018.
“The writer focuses on ordinary people. For their apparent simplicity, for the mocking language, for the natural development of the plots, Vasily Shukshin revealed the incredible depth of human relations, where fate is revealed in every act. This is a kind of “Russian code”, a national character in all its beauty and controversy, ”says project producer Anna Selyanina. “For example, Nastya Kuzmina speaks with a monument to Vasily Makarovich in Srostki as if he were alive:“ Vasya, get up! ”, And Alexandra Mitlyanskaya is looking for magic water in Altai village to give a new life to Shukshin’s creativity - this is the language of the multi-genre exhibition of contemporary artists.”
As part of the Moscow exhibition, film screenings of young directors, a collage workshop, and an animation workshop “Return to Yourself” will be held, where exhibition visitors in different cities of Russia create episodes of the future cartoon, animating Shukshin’s heroes in modern realities.
Project organizers: V. M. Shukshin Formula for Success National Cultural Heritage Revival Fund, ROSIZO State Museum and Exhibition Center with the support of a grant from the President of the Russian Federation for the development of civil society, provided by the Presidential Grants Fund.
The official opening is September 6 at 19.00. Free admission.
