In the Museum and Exhibition Complex of the Russian Academy of Arts, the Zurab Tsereteli Gallery of Art (Moscow, Prechistenka 19), an exhibition of works by St. Petersburg painter Roman Lyapin opens. The exhibition will feature about 50 works of different years.
Roman Lyapin is an honorary member of the Russian Academy of Arts, a multiple winner of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd degree awards at the regular competitions of Tuscany and Lazio (Italy), the Grand Prix nominee for the landscape painting competition in Archinazzo Romano1996. The artist’s works are in private collections in Russia, Germany, Italy, Spain, the USA, Taiwan, France, Japan and other countries. Successful and sought after, the artist participates in numerous exhibition projects in Russia and abroad.
Roman Lyapin was born in 1966 in Leningrad. He graduated from the Leningrad Higher School of Industrial Art. V.I. Mukhina in 1993. While still a student in the early 1990s, at the invitation of an Italian collector, Roman first came to Rome - the center of world art, which has attracted and attracts artists from around the world for centuries. The eternal city forever remained in the heart of the master. Roman continued his professional education at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma (1993-1998), and then worked there as a teacher in the department of painting (1999-2005). Roman Lyapin combined pedagogical activity with active creative work. The years spent in the eternal city have had an exceptional impact on his entire subsequent artistic career. In his work, Roman relies on the traditions of the classical European school, Russian realism, and contemporary Italian painting also had an equal impact on the formation of his style. In 2005, Roman returned to St. Petersburg, where he continued to work as a painter, giving preference to the genre of urban landscape.
The city on the canvases of the painter appears as a complex multicomponent system, where architectural structures merge with the natural landscape under the infinity of the vault of heaven. The sky as a symbol of the highest and eternal beginning, is the main tuning fork of the artist’s urban landscapes. The topographic clarity of the natural landscapes of Roman Lyapin can be replaced by generalized imagery of the city.
A new theme for the artist was the winter landscape, which gives him the opportunity to solve new textured and coloristic tasks. In his winter landscapes, Roman, starting from a real look, shifts his focus to the plastic game of color spots and picturesque textures. Energetic pasty strokes form semi-abstract, vibrating picturesque spaces. From the sketch to the large-format composition, the works of Roman Lyapin are imbued with the spirit of deep inner unity - this is an expressive, energetic painting, painted with a firm hand.
The masterly mastery of light and color gives the author the opportunity to convey a variety of emotional states - from contemplative and romantic to major and life affirming. Roman Lyapin simply defines his creative concept: “As if I am flying over the city and looking at it from above, capturing this visible beauty…”.
Adoration of classical culture, the ability to combine the modern life of megacities with their historical past, to convey the variability of the state of life of the city as a single organism or a separate, fragmentary taken species, the ability to see in a private eternal, sincere admiration of the city as a great manifestation of a person’s creative abilities, to relive every time the perfection and grandeur of nature, to get involved and carry away with the process of creativity itself - all this makes up the “cosmos” of urban landscapes by Roman La ins.
