The Heritage Gallery celebrates its 10th anniversary with the opening of an exhibition dedicated to Soviet art deco. The socialist version of this style, practically unknown to the general public and little studied by specialists, will be presented for the first time in a row with reference samples from New York and Paris. Hot debate about what Soviet art deco is, whether such a phenomenon existed and where its borders are, are still going on. The most spectacular and popular sphere of this luxurious style in the Bolshevik country was large-scale architectural projects in which the young Soviet state was interested, especially the high-rise buildings and the metro. At the same time, only a few custom-made objects of decorative art were intended for the elect, created in the late 1920s - 1930s.
The exhibition in the Heritage Gallery will demonstrate both its connections with the international art scene and the original features that have formed in Soviet Russia. In addition to the parallels between the works of Soviet art deco and New York skyscrapers, French interiors, designer furniture and designer glass, the exhibition will showcase excellent examples of this international style created by Alexander Deineka, Vasily Shukhaev, Alexander Dmitriev, Alexander Rodchenko, graduates of VKhUTEMAS and other sponsored by. As well as graphic works by prominent Soviet architects related to Art Deco: Alexei Schusev, Ilya Golosov, Ivan Fomin, Alexei Dushkin, Jacob Lichtenberg, Dmitry Chechulin. The exposition will be complemented by works by prominent representatives of the Paris school, closely associated with Russia: Sony Delone, Osip Zadkina, Erte, Georgy Artemov, Alexander Arkhipenko, Pavel Chelishchev, Paul Mack, as well as other Soviet and foreign masters.
In 2018, the Heritage Gallery, founded by art historian and collector Kristina Krasnyanskaya, celebrates its 10th anniversary. The gallery was one of the first in Moscow to actively study and show artists of the Russian diaspora, such as A. Lanskoy, B. Grigoriev, V. Kandinsky, M. Chagall, Yu. Annenkov, N. Goncharova. Over time, works of the author’s Soviet design of the 1920-1980s became an important area of interest for the gallery. In 2015, the gallery initiated and conducted, together with the State Museum of Architecture named after A.V. Shchuseva, a large-scale exhibition “Soviet Design. From constructivism to modernism. 1920s - 1960s. " Thanks to the consistent exhibition and research activities of the Eritazh Gallery, the interest of both the public and specialists in this unique and still little studied area has expanded significantly. Western viewers got the opportunity to see Soviet propaganda furniture and design objects for the first time at the Design Miami / Basel international art fair, where the Heritage gallery became the first and only Russian participant. The gallery also supports projects related to contemporary art, holds master classes, lectures, round tables, collectors’ dinners.
Over the past years, the gallery has organized more than 90 exhibition projects in Russia and abroad. Eritazh collaborates with such cultural institutions as the State Museum of Modern Art (Thessaloniki, Greece), the Moscow Museum of Modern Art, the State Russian Museum, and the State Museum of Architecture named after A.V. Shchuseva, State Central Theater Museum. A. Bakhrushina, All-Russian Museum of Decorative, Applied and Folk Art, National Archaeological Museum of Naples, Museum Ma * Ga (Gallarate, Italy).
