The exhibition "Paradoxical Hybrids" has opened at the Center for Contemporary Culture "Bread Factory" (9 Semenovskaya St.). This project brought together young Russian artists whose works combine digital technologies, familiar objects and new media in an unpredictable way. The exhibition runs until January 24, 2019.
The exhibition presents the works of Yegor Kraft, Alina Glazun, Grigory Selsky, Anna Lyalina, Daria Chermoshanskaya, Marina Rudenko, the art group "Where the Dogs Run" and other artists. The curator of the exhibition was Aristarch Chernyshev, a Russian artist, researcher, curator of the Electromuseum in Rostokino, a teacher at the Rodchenko School of Photography and Multimedia.
- In art, there is no utilitarian task to do something that would have specific properties. Artists, as a rule, experiment and look at the result. This principle was used in the selection of authors and their works, ”noted Aristarch Chernyshev.
The project “Paradoxical Hybrids” participated in the parallel program of the 6th Biennale of Young Art (Moscow, 2018). The Bakery Center became the first platform to demonstrate this exhibition outside the capital.
- In the previous project, “Discovery, Discovery,” we, together with the guests of the “Bakery”, sorted out how science and art communicate with each other, tried to understand how and how accurately they model the future. The result was a statement not only about the possibility of interaction between these seemingly non-touching areas, but also about the limitations of human abilities in comprehending the world, about the tricks that our consciousness puts in the way of discovering the unknown. The exhibition "Paradoxical Hybrids" raises similar problems, but focuses on the present, on what is happening here and now: how we manage to maneuver in a continuous stream of information, are we able to expand the scope of our perception of reality, and how we will relate to those who succeeds today, ”said Olga Burasova, chief curator of the Center for Contemporary Culture“ Bread Factory ”.
In addition to the exhibition, lectures from experts in the field of contemporary art and science will be held at the Bakery Center in the new academic season. Meetings are planned with media artists, heads of major publishers, film screenings. Children will be able to attend interactive excursions for schoolchildren and become participants in creative shifts.
