In 1926-1932. - Member of the Kaluga branch of the Association of Artists of Revolutionary Russia. Participant of exhibitions of works by Kaluga artists from 1923 to 1938. In 1939 g.the posthumous exhibition of the master took place in the Kaluga Art Museum.
The Kaluga Museum stores more than 30 paintings and graphic works of the master. These are mainly landscapes and sketches of city streets, as well as several theatrical scenery.
The work "Mill on the river. Yachenka ”was created in the first decades of the twentieth century, in a new significant historical period. This is the time of the formation of young Soviet art, which took the method of realism as a basis, and set the story of Soviet reality as its main goal: successes in construction and agriculture, the life of the Red Army, the daily life of workers and peasants, the glorification of revolutionaries and heroes of labor. In 1922, a broad artistic movement took the form of the Association of Artists of Revolutionary Russia, which for the next decade became one of the main artistic forces of the country.
The Kaluga work is a vivid example of the art of its time. Before us is a summer landscape, the semantic center of which is the building of the mill and the dam next to it. Despite the seeming routine of the plot, the life of an ordinary person is presented festively, and the work is poetic. The bright, iridescent waters of the river stand out against the background of lush greenery and blue-violet distances. The elegantly designed foreground also enlivens the picture. Placed in separate strokes of local colors, it resembles an intricate ornament that reinforces the general major structure of the work.
The work of A. Pokrovsky “Mill on the river. Yachenka ”is exhibited on the occasion of the 140th anniversary of the artist’s birth, as well as the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Kaluga branch of the Association of Artists of Revolutionary Russia.
