On June 7, an exhibition in partnership with the State Museum of Oriental Art “On Paper and Not Only…” will open at the Nagornaya Gallery of the Association “Exhibition Halls of Moscow” with the participation of Russian masters of calligraphy and works by the famous Japanese calligraphy artist Morimoto Ryuseki (1940 - 2017) from Museum funds.
The exhibition will show how the artist achieves maximum expression with minimal artistic means, using only paper, attracting a minimum of additional means: mascara, natural materials, the play of light and shadow. The combination of simplicity and complexity, naturalness and symbolism characterizes everything “Japanese”. There is nothing accidental here, as in the art of origami, when an uncut sheet of paper (this integrity is a prerequisite) turns into a flower or a crane.
Paper, in all its diversity, allows you to plunge into the world of fantasy, where artists only show the way for understanding, but the audience must go this way on their own. Thus, visitors and artists of the exhibition will become co-authors and the perception of space, immersion in the fantastic world of paper will be an opening for everyone. "Paper, as an artistic material, can be attributed to the" field of pure ideas. " Thanks to paper, you can not only contemplate, fantasize, but also create spatial ideas, ”says Nina Ostrun, curator of the exhibition, author of books on origami, creator of a virtual museum dedicated to this art.
The exhibition will feature 9 works from the collection of the State Museum of Oriental Art.
Exhibitors: Dvoryankova Margarita (calligraphy), Beloshkap Marina (calligraphy, sumie), Solovyova Alla (sumie), Kuular Urana (ikebana), Sumarokova Olga (sumie) and Alexey Lev (origami). Project curator - Nina Ostrun, co-curator - Alla Kharitonova
The project is included in the program of the Year of Japan.
As part of the exhibition, a series of master classes and lectures on Japanese culture will be held. Including a demonstration of Japanese tea culture by the masters of the Urasenke tea school, master classes in calligraphy, sumi-e, origami, etc.
