On April 2, a personal exhibition of the Barnaul artist Nikolai Zaikov "Here and Now" opens at the Gallery of Siberian Art (Karl Marx St., 23). The exposition, the title work of which was the tempera "Self-portrait here and now", includes about 50 works from different years, representing a complete "creative presentation" of the author. For the first time, Irkutsk residents will see large graphic sheets made in mixed media and part of a large series of famous St. Petersburg drawings by Nikolai Zaikov.
Nikolay Zaikov - graphic artist, teacher, professor of the Department of Fine Arts of the Institute of Architecture and Design, Altai State Technical University named after II Polzunova, curator of major exhibition projects, was born in 1978 in the city of Kamen-na-Obi. Studied at the Novosibirsk State Academy of Architecture and Art, department of monumental and decorative art (1995-2001). Took part in more than 300 exhibitions in Russia and abroad (1999–2021). Laureate and diploma winner of more than 30 professional exhibitions and competitions, including the prize of the III All-Russian Competition for Young Artists named after V.I. P. M. Tretyakova (Moscow, 2006).
The artist is fluent and fluent in the art of realistic drawing, which allows him to create laconic volumetric-spatial compositions. Images of the material world, executed with photographic accuracy, are presented by the author from unusual angles, complex perspective cuts. Using the technique of collage and boldly introducing bright color accents into monochrome compositions, the artist, in his own way, "frames" reality, offers the viewer a different understanding of it, clothe it in a figurative-metaphorical form.
