Nikolai Konstantinovich Roerich (September 27 (October 9), 1874, St. Petersburg - December 13, 1947, Naggar, Himachal Pradesh, India) - Russian artist, poet, publicist, archaeologist and philosopher of world scale. Being a multifaceted creative person N.K. Roerich left behind a diverse artistic and literary heritage, testifying to the deep and indissoluble connection with Russian culture.
The exhibition exposition consists of 40 paintings and drawings by N.K. Roerich, 39 of which are part of the collection of the State Russian Museum, and 1 work is in the museum collection of the Kaluga Museum of Fine Arts. The Russian Museum has the largest collection of the picturesque heritage of Nicholas Roerich, numbering about 430 works representing the Russian and foreign stages of his career.
The exposition thread leads the viewer through the different stages of the artist’s life and work, starting with works related to the early stage, the so-called “Russian period” of N.K. Roerich, associated with training at the Imperial Academy of Arts and participation in the activities of the associations “World of Art” and “Union of Russian Artists”. Also quite widely and fully represented is the work of N.K. Roerich during his stay abroad after leaving Russia in 1918 - works created in India in the second half of the 1930s - 1940s.
