Vasily Ivanovich Shevchenko (1926–1997) - painter, member of the UNESCO International Federation of Artists, member of the Union of Artists of Russia was born on January 8 in the village of Kolybelka, Voronezh Region. Even in childhood, the boy showed an interest in painting. The youth of Vasily Shevchenko passed in the war years. In war, he knew the price of life. After a serious wound, he could not graduate from an art school, so he comprehended the secrets of pictorial art on his own. The fate of the artist is an example of the asceticism of fidelity to his talent and recognition.

During the improvement of his skills, the artist created his own unique style of painting, the basis of which was the plastic of the traditional "primitive art". The exhibition presents 35 paintings by the artist of the Magic of Creativity foundation, dated from 1963 to 1997. It was during these years that Shevchenko’s paintings were first shown at many prestigious exhibitions in Moscow and abroad, aroused great interest among specialists, art lovers and collectors.

Painting by V. I. Shevchenko leaves no one indifferent. Bright and rich in color, full of characters and allegories, original in composition, his paintings remain in memory for a long time. The image of the artist’s soul, excited, passionate, rejoicing and suffering, open and inexplicable words, is composed of the images of his paintings in the perception of the audience.

The artist’s works are distinguished by a piercing sense of responsibility for the tragic contradictions and nevertheless the wonderful world around us. No wonder the favorite metaphorical figures in his work were the cock and the butterfly, - symbols of the fighting spirit and fragility of life, overcome pain and heavenly ascension.

Impeccability and courage of compositional solutions, high pictorial talent, combined with the thought of the infinity of the universe and the greatness of life’s moment, puts Shevchenko’s work among the greatest phenomena of contemporary world art.

Vasily Shevchenko wrote over 1000 works. His works are in the collection of the Ministry of Culture of Russia, the State Historical-Architectural Art and Landscape Museum-Reserve "Tsaritsyno", Voronezh Regional Art Museum. I.N. Kramskoy, Lipetsk Regional Museum of Local Lore, Lipetsk Regional Museum of Art, Novocherkassk Museum of the History of the Don Cossacks, Liskinsky Museum of History and Local Lore, in private collections in Russia, USA, Germany, Italy, Korea, Finland, Japan.
