The venus in the cafe is armless enough to seem like goddesses, and quite earthly to sip wine and smoke cigarettes. Thinking housewife - at the table, but at the same time somewhere between the sign of infinity and the door ajar in the "now". The power transmission towers are a delightful man-made ornament in the vast expanse of the sky, and a dead bird is absurd, miserable and seems to be out of place in this majestic industrial landscape…
Alpert Gallery presents Olga Yakovleva’s exhibition “Between Easel and Plate”. The exhibition will include about forty works created by the author over the past 13 years. This is the first big retrospective of the artist - from the first paintings painted in Stroganov to works that were specially created for the exhibition in Alpert Gallery.
The last few years, the author’s life is subordinated exclusively to home and children. Exhibitions are rare and, by and large, random. Olga Yakovleva herself does not consider herself an artist, and is ready to be content with the title of housewife, who also draws. However, plots, semantic strata, color and compositional solutions amaze and delight, not allowing you to relate to what the author is doing, just like a hobby. Her interpretations of ordinary life situations are unconventional and deep, whether it is a family breakfast, a picnic in the country, or a child’s cold. Even being between the easel and the stove, the artist builds his vertical - fearlessly turns to biblical images and motives, moving to a new, higher level of dialogue.
You can get acquainted with the works and the author himself as part of the official opening of the exhibition, which will be held at the Alpert Gallery on March 30, 2017, 18-30.
