From 13 to 23 June in the workshop "Nest" will be presented an interactive exhibition of Lisa Stormit "Family Values" in conjunction with the project "Retrolooks". In the art space of the old apartment in the center of Moscow, guests will be able to discover the secrets of the origin of Jewish families, hear related stories from different families, and get acquainted with things from the everyday life of a man of the 20th century brought from Europe, America and various parts of Russia.
The art space of the "Nest" workshop will turn into a memorial apartment of Sarah and Zinovy who lived here once, and an annotation to the exhibition will be an old personal letter telling about family values. In the room next to the collection objects of the past, there are over 30 interactive objects revealing the origin of Jewish surnames, and in the closet there is an audio installation created by Daria Kowalska based on her documentary about Jewish families whose histories are transmitted through their surnames. In addition, the exhibition will present an installation of retro clothing, created in collaboration with artist and performer Mari Sokol and her project "Retrolooks".
During the work on the exhibition, the artist Lisa Stormith studied a huge number of Jewish surnames, and genealogy Vladimir Paley helped her select the most accurate and historically authentic materials. Lisa gave the history of the origin of different surnames a material form, so that visitors to the exhibition could touch them in a literal and figurative sense. Within the framework of the project, "Nest" will also host lectures and master-classes on the subject of the exhibition.
