“Author’s doll” is a new round of art combining the foundations of sculpture, painting, composition and decoration, relating to both needlework and sculpting. A modern doll is an art object that embodies the artist’s wildest fantasies. In the modern world, dolls have become not only a toy or design element, but also a collectible and a popular hobby.
Natalia Filinova is a master of art author’s doll with more than 20 years of experience. She graduated from St. Petersburg State University of Cinema and Television with a degree in animation director. Participant of numerous international exhibitions, member of the International Union of Author’s Dolls, laureate of prizes "Doll of the Year", "Master of the Year", "Best Doll from Baked Plastics", "Dynamics in a Doll", "Characteristic Doll" (2009), "Best Literary Character" (2010), Stand of the Year (2008). The dolls are in private collections of Fedor Bondarchuk, Valery Fokin, Ivan Ozhogin, Konstantin Raikin, Karl Stewart and others in Russia and abroad. Natalia creates portrait and original dolls, combining realism and the fantasy genre. Since 2008, she has been teaching at the School of Author’s Dolls in St. Petersburg.
The exhibition will feature works by Natalia Filinova and her students, many of whom are already masters themselves. The theme of the exhibition was characteristic dolls: emotional, thematic images of people from real life and fictional characters - heroes of myths and fairy tales.

During the master class, you will learn the basics of sculpting from polymer clay and you will be able to fashion the doll’s face yourself for subsequent firing. The master will introduce you to the materials and tools for modeling, give basic information about firing polymer clay at home. In the practical part, they will teach you how to create a doll face based on foil blanks, students will consider the proportions, features of various images of dolls. The finished product can be taken home for subsequent heat treatment. Sketches and any creative ideas are welcome!
