On November 29, 2016, the Fourth Interregional Academic Exhibition “Red Gate / Against the Current” will open in Moscow. A large-scale project is presented at the MVK RAX Gallery of Arts of Zurab Tsereteli of the Russian Academy of Arts (Prechistenka, 19). In the program: 17.00 - opening of the Moscow exposition of a traveling exhibition, presentation of the 2nd volume of the art encyclopedia “Against the Current 2016”, rewarding of Moscow artists - laureates of personal RAX Prizes: named after K.S. Petrova-Vodkina, I.E. Repin, N.I. Feshin, M.V. Nesterova. On the same day, as part of the meeting of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Arts at 2.00 p.m., the awarding of the Prize-winning Presidents of the Russian Academy of Arts Z. Tsereteli will take place.
The project was implemented with financial support from the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.
Main organizers: Russian Academy of Arts and Volga branch of the Russian Academy of Arts, Creative Union of Russian Artists, Saratov State Art Museum named after A.N. Radishchev, Volga Art Gallery and the Collection of Actual Realism Foundation (Tolyatti), Bashkir State Art Museum named after M.V. Nesterova (Ufa), State Museum of Fine Arts of the Republic of Tatarstan (Kazan) with the support of the Ministry of Culture of Russia, the Ministry of Culture of the Saratov Region, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Bashkortostan, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Tatarstan.
The project leader and author is Academician K.V. Khudyakov, vice-president of the Russian Academy of Arts, chairman of the Volga branch of the Russian Academy of Arts, president of the Creative Union of Artists of Russia.
The large-scale research project is based on the methodology of the 17th century European enlightener Jan Amos Komensky, who created the encyclopedic work for the youth “The World of Sensual Things in Pictures”. The task of the organizers of the project is to display the diversity of the surrounding world of nature and human relations through the works of artists of the beginning of the 21st century, to explore the modern art process. In 2016, as part of the academic competition, artworks on 10 themes were considered: Paradise, Fire, Air, Water, Earth, Day and Night, Time, Seasons, Cataclysm, Space.
The competition was attended by over 700 artists from Moscow, St. Petersburg, 14 regions of the Volga region, as well as Novosibirsk, Tomsk, Yekaterinburg, Vladimir, Vladikavkaz, Kaluga, Suzdal, Rostov-on-Don, Crimea.
The Expert Council of the Russian Academy of Arts and the jury, which included well-known figures of culture and art, selected more than 500 works (about 460 authors) in this project. As a result, the laureates of the competition (31 people) were identified: 6 laureates of the K.S. Prizes Petrova-Vodkin, 6 Prize winners named after I.E. Repin, 8 laureates of the Prizes named after N.I. Feshin, 5 laureates of the Prize named after M.V. Nesterova, 6 laureates of the Prizes of the President of the Russian Academy of Arts Z.K. Tsereteli.
The awards of the “Against the Current” academic competition were initiated by the Volga branch of the Russian Academy of Arts and the Collection of Actual Realism Foundation in order to support talented authors and perpetuate the memory of enlightening artists who have become symbols of the Russian cultural tradition. This year, regional executive bodies joined the financing of prizes: K.S. prizes Petrova-Vodkina was funded by the Government of the Saratov Region, N.I. Prizes Feshina - Government of Tatarstan, M.V. Prizes Nesterova - Government of Bashkortostan, Prizes of I. Ye. Repin - Fund “Collection of Actual Realism”, Prizes of the President of the Russian Academy of Arts - Zurab Tsereteli Foundation.
The prize winners were representatives from different cities and regions: Moscow, Saratov, Togliatti, Kazan, Naberezhnye Chelny, Ufa, Ulyanovsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Novosibirsk, Vladikavkaz.
The academic project includes: a traveling exhibition, workshops on painting, drawing, digital art, round tables, seminars, presentations of publishing projects.
The exposition of the traveling exhibition included the works of artists from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Saratov, Samara, Togliatti, Izhevsk, Perm, Penza, Cheboksary, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Ulyanovsk, Ufa, Novosibirsk. A total of about 200 works by more than 180 artists. All of them are representatives of various creative unions: the TSH of Russia, the Moscow Union of Artists and the Union of Artists of Russia, interns at the Creative Workshops of the Russian Academy of Arts, free artists.
More than 160 Moscow artists participate in the exhibition project, 11 of them became laureates of nominal prizes: K.S. Prizes Petrova-Vodkina (Kalinin Sergey, Semenov Eugene), Prizes N.I. Feshin (Konysheva Natta, George Pusenkov, Leo Tabenkin), Prizes I.E. Repin (Borisov Sergey, Zhernoklyuev Alexander), Prizes to them. M.V. Nesterova (Batynkov Konstantin), Prizes of the President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli (Volkonskaya Julia, Lagutenkova Vera, Poloz Galina).
As part of the grand opening, Moscow will host the presentation of the 2nd volume of the anti-current art encyclopedia with research articles and works by participants. Each artist participating in the project will receive an original copy of the album for free. This year, a special place in the art encyclopedia is given to the works of N. I. Feshin from the collection of the State Museum of Fine Arts of the Republic of Tatarstan (Kazan). Feshin’s works open every thematic section of the encyclopedia. It is planned to draw another “tens” of topics “Against the Current” for 2018.
November 30 at 14.00 in the MVK PAX Gallery of Arts Zurab Tsereteli (Prechistenka, 19) a round table is planned following the results of the exhibition "Red Gate / Against the Current". Curators and project participants are invited.
