February 24 at the Gilyarovsky Center, a branch of the Museum of Moscow, an exhibition of artists of the "Simple School" opens. The exhibition entitled "Graphic Walks" will present an atypical look at the capital through the drawings of 24 artists.
The Simple School is an arts school, a home of culture, and a community where people learn craftsmanship, develop mindfulness, and improve interaction with themselves and others. "Graphic Workshop" is one of the school’s study groups, led by the artist Dmitry Gorelyshev. Participants draw from life and imagination, explore the possibilities of different techniques, and engage in print graphics and illustration. Every summer the "Graphic Workshop" draws in the city.
The exhibition at the Gilyarovsky Center presents the graphics of the workshop participants, teachers and school staff. Some of the works are grouped into expositions according to exercise topics: “Night”, “Gouache”, “Trees”, “Long Exposure”, “Abstraction”, “Beauty of the Unsightly”, etc. Such exercises set a common task for the group, in line with which participants found their own interest and reasons for drawing. To make the impression of the works more complete, the artists wrote small memoirs of the places where the drawings were made for the exhibition. From this mosaic of drawings and memories, a multifaceted and personal image of Moscow is formed.
"Graphic Workshop" is not only an experience of an unusual view of the city, but also a laboratory in which a modern visual culture of representing Moscow is being formed. One of the themes of the exhibition is the transition from nature sketches to the creation of book illustrations. The exercises focus artists on unusual topics and inspire exploration. So, one of the results of the work in the workshop was the book by the artist Tanya Borisova "Hi, Moscow!", Which was published by Ad marginem at the end of last year. The presentation of the book with the participation of the author will also take place on February 24 at 18:00 at the Gilyarovsky Center. Tanya will talk about working on a project, drawing from nature and from a photo, about thoughtful looking at a long-familiar city.
