“The past has acquired features of completeness.” The Artmuz Museum will open an exhibition of the St. Petersburg artist Igor Burmistrov, a painting series created during the artist’s trips to the ancient city of Shuya, Ivanovo Region.
For more than 10 years, the artist has been painting a temple near the ancient city of Shuya, Ivanovo region, spending several months a year there. The rest of the time he devoted to his canvases, and over time, a cycle of works was formed, connected by a general mood from his trips to the painting of the temple. In the “album” there are not only Shuya, but also Vladimir, Nizhny Novgorod, Pskov region, places where I had to visit at that time.
Fifty works from 2 meters to 50 cm with a mood between heaven and earth will be presented at Burmistrov’s solo exhibition in the main gallery of Artmuza in April. Spring twilight near the Resurrection Cathedral; a narrow strip of evening dawn with birds flying over the market; old houses that keep the memory of another life; conversations with shui friends…
“Now that our work in the temple has been completed, the past has acquired features of completion. It’s like living another life inside my life. You can return there simply by going to Shuya, or by going into the depths of your heart, which already stores everything dear. The viewer, I hope, will see this in my works.”
