Since October 28, at the Gallery’s Moscow art club, a retrospective exhibition of photographer Sergey Savkin, some of which was made using the unique infrared photography technique, a range not accessible to the human eye in everyday life.
In Savkin’s photographs, made in infrared photography, as well as in traditional black and white, you can see urban and suburban landscapes, genre photos, architecture in a non-standard format that characterizes exclusively the author’s look. Familiar places, genre plots, architectural sights turn into fantastic landscapes, “parallel” worlds, shot with a wide-angle lens. The Moscow life in the author’s photos is transformed into an alternative city, such as we would see the capital, if the human eye were susceptible, for example, to infrared radiation, saw heat…
Savkin says about his exhibition that: “The exhibition itself was rather an amazing surprise for me, rather than something long-awaited, hatched… I was used, by virtue of my profession, that photos, by and large, do not belong to me, regardless from whether they are made to order or removed for the sake of a personal creative experiment. As soon as a snapshot is published, at least on a personal page on Facebook, he lives his life. And only society can appreciate it. And this exhibition for me, most likely, is not some kind of debriefing, but a friendly gesture to people who know my work or who first met him and could make their mark. Nevertheless, I consider the unifying factor at this exhibition to be the urban theme: city landscapes, architecture, despite the fact that rural landscapes are also present. For me, the presence of a person is important, his designation in the picture of this world…. "
Sergey Savkin, a professional photographer engaged in scientific photography, works as a photographer at the physics department of Moscow State University. This year marks the 45th anniversary of his arrival in the scientific laboratories of alma mater. Behind dozens of scientific expeditions and hundreds of reports on events and places that concerned both his main work at Moscow University and just his creative life. The author himself says that he is, first and foremost, a Moscow photographer who loves his city, which is his hourly inspiration.
