The Echo of Thinking exhibition runs from June 16 to 28. The opening will take place on June 19 at 18.00.
The exhibition “Echo of Thought”, which opens on June 19, 2017 in the Fine Arts Hall of the Volga branch of the Russian Academy of Arts (Moscow, 15 Lavrushinsky Lane), presents paintings by Igor Levin. The opening of the exhibition takes place on the eve of the fiftieth anniversary of the artist. The central place in the exposition is occupied by cycles of paintings that reflect the deepest meanings of spiritual phenomena, the reflection of the contradictory sides of the human essence. The artist gravitates to reflections on eternal philosophical questions, tries to abandon the literal perception of everyday phenomena, plunge into the world of symbols and archetypes. In the thematic series of his works, biblical and antique plots often arise, which are refracted through the prism of the author’s experiences and emotions. According to Nizhny Novgorod art historians N.V. Svirina and S. V. Melnik, "the artist creates his own imaginative world, bearing only a distant echo of reality, hoping that this deep sound resonantly reflects in the soul of the viewer."
Igor Levin’s artistic thinking is at the junction of two stylistic trends - symbolism, aimed at searching for essential meanings and values and expressionism, carrying the energy power of emotional impulses and passions, the severity of the emotional perception of reality. It is no coincidence that the author’s works are conceptually presented in tandem with his poetic work (Igor Levin owns five poetry collections - “A Flower in a Window”, “An Artificial Sun”, “Revelation from Me”, “The Number of Changes”, “Named E.K.” and a novel “Open line”).
Igor Levin works in various genres (portrait, landscape, still life, animalistic plots), but prefers the thematic composition, which makes it possible to solve creative problems and figurative development of a pictorial motive. The works presented at the exhibition are made using oil painting technique. The artist tries to diversify the painting style depending on the design of the work and the nature of the creative tasks. A wide pasty writing with a brush and palette knife is combined with light strokes and transparent glaze.
Igor Leonidovich Levin (born in 1968) - artist, scientist, poet and prose writer, member of the International Federation of Artists and the Creative Union of Artists of Russia, the Russian Union of Professional Writers, candidate of pedagogical sciences, assistant professor of drawing and painting at the Nizhny Novgorod State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering.
