Is the world of fine art when there are not enough words and life itself to express both the enthusiasm and pain of contemplating reality? When not subjective, not objective, but what is felt dominates in creativity. And it’s not the search for truth, but the possibility of searching that dominates the canvas - isn’t that when contemporary art begins? Art, devoid of patterns and idols, seeking, posing questions - why and how to live? And providing an answer to the viewer himself. Perhaps it is in the work of Evgenia Leonova that contains what should be considered the emerging true contemporary art? An art that does not deny past experience, but refracts previous ideas in a kaleidoscope of plurality of opinions?
Her canvases are extremely sincere, extremely conceptually simple and, at the same time, problematic in social and personal senses. Her world is united in all its contradictions, oddities, problems, and, what can be the most important thing, what can and should be considered an artistic discovery - after all, it is infinitely kind. And the artist herself does not know any other recipe for giving this world the joy of life, except by acquiring the artistic harmony of the elements of the composition, the color that performs captivating, almost musical suites in her canvases. It would seem that postmodern confusion dominates the chaotic movements of small and numerous figures, characters favored by Eugenia, sometimes simplified to intentional primitiveness - but no! It is worth taking a step, and the divine power of the artist’s brush combines chaotic random into the strict harmony of the system. Isn’t that the way art should be now, in an era of strange wars and stupid hatred that spills little across countries, but across continents already? Sincere kindness, surprise to all beings, and therefore the forgiveness of everything not criminal - the highest tolerance - is this what the world needs now?
E. Leonova exhibited a lot, including on supposedly not prestigious, but close to the so-called "simple" viewer sites. I remembered the conversation of mom and daughter accidentally overheard in one of her paintings. - Mother Mother! Take a look! It is me! And here you go with Aunt Katya! The girl cried out with the joy of discovering her own place in our, unfortunately, such a distant, cruel world. Could there be a higher reward than such a touching recognition
Evgenia Leonova is a Moscow artist (born in Moscow, studied at Moscow State University), and many of her works are dedicated to our city. Like Bulat Okudzhava, she was born in Moscow for self-understanding of the great city, giving Moscow life an ideal areola of spirituality, already almost lost in the hustle and vulgarity of urban routine.
But the artist’s imagination goes further and in search of scenes does not tolerate uniformity - from Arbat to Insomnia (although this is also a “privilege” of megacities), from Russian counters (“Eniki-Beniki”) and tongue twisters (“Tara-Bary”) - to the “Vienna Waltz” and the problem of globalization (“And the eternal battle!… And there is no end!”).
Having passed through the art of art education at the Color studio, Mark Morgulis (vice-president of the International Association “The Art of the World’s People”), Evgenia Leonova avoided imitation and mediocrity in her art. It is impossible to learn naive art, it is self-sufficient. The bold works of the artist combine the brightness of imaginative imagination, freshness and sincerity of perception of the world. Being a person of high exactingness to herself, only making sure of the significance of her works, Evgenia Leonova joined the Creative Union of Russian Artists and the International Federation of Artists in 2009. The undoubted talent was confirmed by her Diplomas for prizes in a number of Russian and international exhibitions, including the 1st International Salon “The Way of Unity” (CHA, 2009), Russian Art Weeks (Moscow, CHA, Sokolniki, CSI M’ARS, 2011 –2013), Slavic Art Weeks in Berlin, Madrid, Florence (2011, 2014).
