The exhibition of Elizabeth Bank “Who is this sleeping?” Presents a series of surreal portraits of the heroes of the mysterious David Lynch series “Twin Peaks”. The portraits are made with many details, each of which invites the viewer to engage in a dialogue with the paintings, recall, and possibly rethink the plots and ideas of the first three seasons. The exhibition also includes a series of three graphic works by the artist and illustrator Masha Kurazh.
I love stories that contain generalizations and suggest abstract thoughts. All the plots of my films are just that.
David lynch
For me, Twin Peaks is, first of all, one of the most basic connecting links between two eras, millennia. The story of the inhabitants of a small town, initially perceived by us as a detective story with elements of mysticism, eventually grows into a whole legend, myth, legend, overgrown with an increasing number of mysterious puzzles. Surprisingly, it is worth confessing that the age of mankind is enormous, but still over the past millennia no one has been able to answer the most important questions, for example, about the afterlife. At a minimum, what happens to us after death? - Being or not being? - Does our consciousness dissipate at the moment of crossing the border between the worlds? - Do we recognize ourselves in these seconds? - Do we recognize ourselves in life?
Lynch does not answer these questions, he only plunges us into the surreal space of the world between the worlds, forcing us to look for clues, keys, answers. Perhaps the tips we received from Lynch through the heroes of Twin Peaks, whose portraits are presented at the exhibition, will help each of us to find our own way among many worlds.
A series of three works by Masha Kurazh presented at the exhibition are united by a joke and a myth: did George Bush Sr. answer Mikhail Sergeyevich? What if the dwarf opened his TV show, and a lady with a log would resort to a non-verbal way of communication?
