This year, Russia and the whole world are celebrating the 60th anniversary of the first manned flight into space. This unique moment, in which the feats of the past, dreams of the future and unresolved issues and unrealized projects of the present merged, became an excellent chance to stop and see, think and discuss, feel and believe.
From April 12 to May 14, 2021 in Kaluga, the city where thoughts about man’s aspiration into space were born and materialized, the Pro Art`s gallery will present the BACK IN SPACE exhibition.
The exposition brings together personal projects of two authors, whose names are included in the TOP-35 of Russian contemporary artists:
Victor Ponomarenko and Nastya Miro.
For several years, the authors of the exhibition have been discussing in their work about space, asking questions that concern all of humanity. Are we alone in the universe? How close are we to the development of other planets and is humanity ready to become a multi-planetary civilization?
In the "JETTISON" project, Victor Ponomarenko will present Lunar landscapes made in the artist’s traditional realistic painting technique. At first glance, it seems that the plot of his works with flying disposable saucers and plastic bags is very surreal. But there is evidence that debris appeared on the surface of the moon before a person stepped foot.
Nastya Miro, in her discussion of the future of mankind, concentrates on the topic of Russian cosmonautics. In 2019, she first saw photographs of two Burans. The image of the forgotten, sleeping giants captured her heart and mind. Her project "THE BRIDE FOR THE BURAN", consisting of hyperrealistic painting, video and a four-meter model of Buran, appeals to our emotions, to the natural desire to accomplish a feat, to build a new one from the ruins, start from scratch, with a white dress… and ascend to the infinite and unearthly. Today, space titans are hidden in the steppes of Kazakhstan, far from highways and incessant cities. But Nastya believes that they can still wake up. That we will be able to conclude an alliance with our Soviet past and the Russian present, and by combining forces and sincere aspirations, make a new leap forward.
