Artmuse will exhibit works by the artist and philosopher Anatoly Maslov (1938-2016) from the collection of his widow, G. I. Rukina. The exhibition was curated by Marina Gurevich and Anatoly Zaslavsky (leader of Hopeless Painters).
The nickname “Sudar” was given to the artist by close friends: this name “clung” to him, because he himself called everyone “sir” and “madame” from his youth. The charisma of a philosopher has always been traced in his character and work. The future painter, graphic artist and poet studied at the Suvorov School, which was supposed to curb his obstinate temper, and graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy of the University. Maslov became interested in fine arts when he attended painting classes for students of the Mukhinsky School, but he developed his own vision on his own, and it is difficult to say what appeared first - the philosophical thought about the Absolute Spirit or his painting of Light.
The exhibition will show an example of a breakthrough in painting towards the light: Maslov’s pictorial compositions assert complete freedom of shaping, violate stable perspective laws. All lines of houses, avenues and canals of the city are curved in free submission to the spherical nature of the cosmos. In a certain period of Maslov’s work, there was a sharp jump from violent contrast to gentle, infinitely close in tone colors. Painting has not lost its color energy, but acquired the content of luminosity.
The exhibition will present unique graphic and pictorial works of the artist from the personal archive, it will open on 9 February in the presence of the artist’s close circle.
