March 29 at 16.00 in the main building of the Irkutsk Art Museum (Lenin St., 5) opens the exhibition "Native Land" by the outstanding Siberian artist Anatoly Kostovsky (1928–2018), dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the master. The exhibition presents more than 50 paintings and graphic works that most fully reflect the artist’s creative path.
An excellent painter, teacher, member of the Union of Artists of the USSR, Honored Artist of the RSFSR, an honorary member of the All-Russian Society for the Protection of Monuments of History and Culture, a veteran of labor - Anatoly Kostovsky was born in Irkutsk in 1928 and remained faithful to his native city all his long life.
“Everything that is in me from the artist,” the master admitted, “I owe Irkutsk. His old log cabins taught me to see color in all the richness and complexity of relationships. They prompted me both painting and color - that Siberian and unique color that I have not seen anywhere else. When you look at old houses or gates and imagine how many centuries have rustled over them; when you see the people who lived here, and how you live their life, then the beauty and meaning of the past is revealed to you. And the past always helps to understand the present. ”
Preserving the traditions of the Russian realistic school of painting, Anatoly Kostovsky appears as a master, subtly feeling the beauty and complexity of the modern world. Each of his works carries excitement and sadness, love and joy, delight in the splendor of nature and admiration for the people whose images he captured in portraits.
The Irkutsk Art Museum has the most significant collection from the artistic heritage of Anatoly Kostovsky. Most of it will be shown at the exhibition dedicated to the memory of the artist, who is rightly called a classic of Siberian painting.
Opening of the exhibition “Native Land” will be held on March 29 in the main building of the Irkutsk Art Museum (Lenin St., 5). Beginning at 16.00. Entrance to the opening is free. The exposition will run until May 20.
