The Borey Gallery presents an exhibition of the works of the sculptor, Honored Artist of the Republic of Tatarstan, Vinera Abdullina. The exhibition in the Small Hall of the gallery will feature sculpture and graphics representing the art of shamail, created by the master in the early 1980s – 2018.
Shamail (accent on the letter “I”; from the Arabic “amulet”, from the Persian “portrait”, “image”) in Islam - a wall panel, a picture-saying of protective and ritual significance. It contains Surahs of the Koran, philosophical sayings, aphorisms, quotes from the poetic masterpieces of the East, combined with an ornamental and pictorial background.
Ink or printing, oil paints on glass or canvas, embroidered on canvas, shamili are always hung out in prominent, honorable places of homes and mosques.
Shamail is not only a special kind of fine art, but also a peculiar phenomenon of Muslim culture, an important part of religious and aesthetic consciousness. In particular, the Tatar shamail, having penetrated deeply into the self-consciousness of the people, has become one of the ways of national self-expression, and is an integral part of the traditional culture of Tatarstan.
Wiener Abdullina was born in Leningrad in 1965.

2002 - Graduated from the graduate school of the St. Petersburg State Academic Institute named after I.E. Repin
2002 - Member of the St. Petersburg Union of Artists of Russia
2011 - Awarded with the Certificate of Honor of the Republic of Tatarstan “For promoting the development of traditions of national cultural heritage and harmonization of interethnic relations”
2012 - Awarded the honorary title "Honored Artist of the Republic of Tatarstan"
Since 1983 to the present - a regular participant in the annual autumn and spring exhibitions of St. Petersburg Union of Artists; many city, republican and international exhibitions. The sculptor’s works are in private collections, decorate the streets and buildings of cities in Russia and abroad.
